Paul Mogensen

A student of mathematics and chemistry in the days before his foray into art, Paul Mogensen (b.1941) approaches painting through the lens of mathematical progressions and classical ratios. His array of squares, rectangles, and lines come alive through their interactions with negative space and bold pigmentapplied directly from the tube.

Throughout his over fifty-year career, Mogensen has worked towards refining paintings to their mostessential form. His purist ways make for unburdened and immediate pieces of timeless visual patterns.

Morgensen’s work is represented in the collections of major international institutions, including the HammerMuseum, Los Angeles; The Menil Collection, Houston, TX; MoMA, New York; Museum of Fine Arts,Houston; Kunstmuseum Winterthur, Switzerland.
