I Construct What I Want to Disrupt: Misaligned Enjambements:
A solo exhibition by artist Sarah Al Mehairi
1st Floor Landing
Until October 2025

Titled I Construct What I Want to Disrupt: Misaligned Enjambements, Sarah Al Mehairi’s exhibition explores the boundaries of language, form, and space. Drawing from the poetic device of enjambment, her compositions extend beyond conventional frames—disrupting visual expectations and inviting viewers into a spatial and conceptual dialogue. Created specifically for The Arts Club, the show features her most ambitious works to date: three monumental pieces (350 x 200 cm) that respond directly to the club’s distinctive interiors.

Al Mehairi engages deeply with materiality, scale, and the tension between structure and spontaneity. Her palette—blacks, beiges, whites and reds—echoes the maroon-toned setting, while also asserting a visual independence. Negative space plays a central role, as sections of canvas are cut away to reveal the walls behind, allowing the works to absorb and challenge their surroundings.

Part of her ongoing Off-Centered series, the pieces blend hand-drawn and digital methods. Precise frameworks are disrupted by gestural brushwork and imperfect grids, offering a meditation on control, imperfection, and the layered act of making.

The Stairway Exhibitions are dedicated to showcasing the best collections in the region and beyond; as well as timely solo and group shows of emerging and established artists, both regional and international.
